GALS MUSIC SCHOOL FUNDRAISER
Help support grassroots music education for girls and women in Gambia and change lives!
Dear Friends and supporters of The Groovy African Ladies Music School,
I am announcing the fundraiser for our next project. Here’s what it looks like:
A Collaboration and cultural exchange project between a group of students here in Germany and in our students in Gambia.
Gambian Producer Wole Rendel will handle the studio workshop at The Alliance Francais in Serrekunda for our Gambian students. The talented Bernd Leibl (Ras Dashan) of Sunfood studio in Ingolstadt will be at the helm of the audio and video workshops for the German students, as well as some vocal coaching.
The song we will record is called Rockstar.
Since our first session of workshops at The Groovy African Ladies Music School, the first thing that all the students learned on guitar was a simple, 2 chord groove that we played and played. When our top student, Mary Shinybright, added her lyrics, a song was born. Over time, we arranged the song for the group, adding a guitar hook, a funky bass line, drums and a rap part. Rockstar became our theme song.
It was performed many times since then. It was part of the set for the WAW Jaliyah Groovy Project and presented to audiences in Senegal at the Boukout Festival Bignona, Douloulou Festival, Jaliyah Festival, Abene.
Now we want to record the song as a collaborative project with some of our young women music students here in Germany together with their Gambian counterparts. Two studios, Two Workshops, Two countries, One song, One music video. One group of Groovy Ladies!
Our fundraiser is still active on Generosity.
Dear Friends, I wish to thank you all and extend wishes for a peaceful, prosperous and happy 2017. I want to report on the wonderful collaboration project that was recently completed with Sousou Cissoko and Jaliya Connection. Our joint project, Jaliya Groovy Music Exchange, aka WAW Music!
